ADMISSION CONDITIONS

To be admitted to a program leading to a diploma of college studies (DEC), candidates must meet the following two conditions :

1. Hold a secondary school diploma (DES) obtained through the youth or adult sector* :
  • Remark Candidates holding a DES who have not successfully completed one or more of the following courses could be required to enrol in remedial activities :
    • Secondary V Language of Instruction;
    • Secondary V Second Language;
    • Secondary IV Mathematics;
    • Secondary IV Science and Technology or Applied Science and Technology (Physics);
    • Secondary IV History and Citizenship Education.
       
or Hold a secondary school vocational diploma (DEP) * :
  • Remark Candidates holding a DEP must absolutely have successfully completed the following courses :
    • Secondary V Language of Instruction;
    • Secondary V Second Language; and
    • Secondary IV Mathematics;

or Hold schooling deemed to be equivalent by the College :

or Hold schooling and experience deemed to be sufficient by the College. Candidates must have interrupted their full-time studies for a cumulative period of at least 36 months.

* A college can conditionally admit candidates who have yet to complete no more than six credits to obtain a secondary school diploma (DES) or the three mandatory courses needed to obtain a secondary school vocational diploma (DEP). These candidates must agree to obtain the missing credits during their first college semester.

 

2. Meet, if applicable, the particular conditions set for admission to a program by the Minister (pre-requisites) and by the college (test, interview, audition, etc.)
 

A college can also set particular conditions, which are defined in its local admission by-law. For instance, such conditions could include :

  • Quality of a candidate's academic record;
  • Performance during an interview or on a test;
  • A medical examination; or
  • Priority for students from a given region.
